The Law Offices of Daniel Shanfield – Immigration Defense PC is proud to announce that law firm President Daniel Shanfield has been appointed to the National Asylum and Refugee Committee of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) for 2015-16. Daniel will be assisting AILA in conducting policy advocacy on asylum and refugee issues before USCIS. Of key concern are access to asylum procedures at the border for asylum seekers, and criminal prosecution of asylum seekers for illegal entry into the United States.
Daniel brings years of unique experience to the committee. Daniel has previously served as a United Nations refugee resettlement expert in Central Asia, and was Legal Services Manager with the U.S. Refugee Program’s overseas processing post in Austria for Iranian religious minorities. After beginning his career as a trial attorney with the U.S. Immigration & Naturalization Service in Los Angeles, he was staff attorney in New York with the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights’ pro bono asylum program. Daniel has lectured on asylum and immigration law issues at UC Berkeley Law, NYU, Columbia Law School, and Jaigellonian University in Poland.
